Sentencing for Abraham “Abe” Martinez, a former Laredo Medical Center CEO who took part in an almost three-year conspiracy when he received more than $95,000 in bribes from a local doctor in exchange for contract protection, has been rescheduled for Aug. 29.
In February, Martinez quietly pleaded to federal bribery and tax evasion charges in a Houston courtroom.
His wife, Argelia Martinez, who pleaded guilty to tax evasion, also will be sentenced Aug. 29.
A civil lawsuit filed in 2009 by two local doctors — anesthesiologist Dr. Eliel Ntakirutimana, better known as Dr. Nataki, and pediatrician Dr. Jose Berlioz — has not been resolved.
