Road Trip

Via the City of Laredo:
(April 4, 2011, 2:45 p.m.) Tomorrow, City of Laredo Mayor Raul G. Salinas will testify in Austin in front of the House Committee on Homeland Security and Public Safety in support of House Bill 48, authored by Aaron Peña.

House Bill 48 relates “to authorizing the Department of Public Safety of the State of Texas to investigate the feasibility of and cooperate in the establishment of southbound checkpoints along the international border of this state.”
Yeah, you see, the city would like to cooperate with the construction of said checkpoints but money is tight right now and we're kind of tied up with building a new golf course and baseball stadium.  And besides, the mayor doesn't have time to go network with politicos in Austin; those ribbons aren't necessarily going to cut themselves around here.
Additionally, Salinas will also spend the next day in Austin, meeting with various officials regarding homeland security, including: Representative Aaron Peña; Representative Debbie Riddle, who sits on the Border & Intergovernmental Affairs Committee; Teresa Spears, Appointments Director for the Office of the Governor; and Steve McCraw, Director of the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Mr. Pena, my card.  Ms. Riddle, my card.  Ms. Spears, my card. Mr. McCraw, my card.

Call me.
