The Laredo Energy Arena is going to host a big event tonight, the "Rumble On The Rio." I think it's all about some people having anger issues and they take it out on other people.
Anyway, a reader questioned why this privately promoted event would have the city's logo on the event's poster. After all, the list of corporate sponsors at the bottom all seem to be out to make a buck. So why include the odd man out? Well, I was told by a staff member at the public information office that the arena is owned by the city. The reason the name was changed to the 'Laredo Energy Arena' is because the naming rights were bought by a private entity.
I don't see a problem with them including the city logo on a poster. Whether somebody within city government is profiting from this event is another story. But I'm not going to get full disclosure, especially from city staff. If somebody knows something that I don't, I would love to hear it.
BTW, the picture is from yesterday's LMT. Thanks.
