Man forced bribes, evaded taxes in scheme at hospital

Former Laredo Medical Center CEO Abraham “Abe” Martinez quietly pleaded guilty in February to federal conspiracy to commit bribery and tax evasion after local doctors claimed they were required to pay Martinez monthly fees to keep their contracts with the hospital.
Martinez’s wife, Argelia Martinez, pleaded guilty to tax evasion.
