The son of former sheriff Juan Garza, and some other guy, were taken into custody yesterday, all after being stopped for a supposed traffic violation. The stop happened near an elementary school. LaSanbe cannot confirm whether Garza was texting in a school zone (a no-no in our fine city) or was suffering from a case of me estoy miando, muevanse! The duo's lack of concern for traffic laws led police to a stash of ammunition and drugs.
When I saw the news report initially I sort of recognized the background. Sure enough, the cops stopped the two hoodlums in front of some rental property on Market St., walking distance from my house. Reports state that they were riding in a Chevy Equinox. Coincidentally that's the same vehicle that San Luis Rey Church is raffling at their upcoming Spring Jamaica. If anyone needs tickets, my mom can hook you up.
Tip of the hat to the cops for scoring big on this. And kudos for KGNS for being there to document the occasion. You guys are on your toes.
When the sheriff was in office, back some twenty years ago, I would hear stories about the son being caught doing some illegal act or another. Whether this is the same person, I'm not sure. All I know is that this is a high profile case and I can't wait to see how it ends.
