Council stresses park safety

Laredo City Council members put Police Chief Carlos Maldonado on the spot Tuesday night, asking why officers aren’t doing more to keep city parks safe.

The short answer to that is:  because cops can't be at one place all the time.
Last night I caught a piece of the city council meeting where Chief Maldonado was speaking before our city reps.  The exchange between the chief and Councilman San Miguel was tense, or so it seemed.  I realize that we have a big problem with vandalism, public intoxication, and so on, but taking the police dept. to task over this issue is a little misguided.

I'm not a big fan of the force but a more appropriate way to approach this is to question their response time.  Naturally those on duty are going to prioritize calls made by the public but it's been to often that I hear a case where an officer takes too long to respond to a scene.
