When the Laredo City Council meets tonight, it will consider two contracts that could affect the future of recreation along Chacon Creek in South Laredo and the development of Laredo International Airport.
The council will consider a $320,000 contract for the first phase of construction of a Chacon Creek hike and bike trail.

This first phase was supposed to be completed early last year.  The article makes mention of the recreation center that will sit right next to the trail.  This center, behind the Target on Loop 20, was supposed to be completed in 2009; it will be opening soon.  In this new LMT interview no mention is made of a completion date for the trail.
The first phase of construction could take more than five months to complete.
Smart move.  Perhaps at tonight's city council meeting we'll get an idea of how this project will progress.  When I talked to city officials in 2009, they told me that the trail (connecting TAMIU with LCC South) would take approximately ten years to complete.  By Laredo's standards, that could be 2025.
