More Webb County Woes

Webb County can now boast that it has its own fire department.  But with that comes the burden of a $278,000 shortfall.  The LMT's Nick Georgiou details some of the expenses that are responsible for it:  overtime, stipends, training, fuel and supplies.  This naturally puts more pressure on commissioners court to cover the costs of providing fire and EMS services for its constituency.  Commissioner Jerry Garza comes up with a horrible analogy:
"The house is not on fire," he said.  "But it's made of straw and there's a campfire down the street.  I really worry about this.  "This is going to come back and be a huge financial liability for us."
