The Culture Of Drums And Dance

Bordertown Blues talks up the significance of matachines and their correlation to their surroundings.  He cites the writings of Professor Norma Elia Cantu.
In particular, she highlights the rituals inherent in how barrio residents carved out a specific area of land to hold their traditional dances.
I've recently heard the Heights neighborhood matachin group practicing.  Their drum sounds carries well over into the Chacon.  These devoted individuals can't be missed.  As I show in the video below, they have formed a tight relationship with the locals.
