International rail freight traffic has literally come to a halt in Laredo.
The Rio Grande flooding caused serious rail issues for Kansas City Southern de México and Union Pacific, major railroad companies that use the Laredo Gateway for products and goods. How serious?

Serious, for sure.  Local businesses have felt the impact.  USA Today reports on the effect the flooding has had on the auto industry as car parts have not made it to their destination.

After reading these stories I realized that I hadn't heard any train horns in the Chacon lately.  I have seen some boxcars sitting idle but the usual activity isn't there.  We need commerce but I don't mind the temporary peace in my neighborhood.
