Nuevo Laredo Violence Not Happening?

The media in Nuevo Laredo hasn't reported on the violence that has gripped the city lately.  And for good reason.  Reporters, editors and anybody that has a responsibility to cover the news fear for their lives as cartel members have made it clear that they don't want the violence covered.  The Nuevo Laredo mayor, however, chimes in with his assessment:
“The city is calm,” Nuevo Laredo Mayor Ramon Garza told a national radio network last week in the wake of the July 16 fighting, rebutting hundreds of e-mails received by his interviewer. “We have had months of peace and tranquility in our city.”

Cartels have made life difficult for the media.  The mayor has made life tough for himself all by his very lonesome, unless he's being coerced by the cartels as well.
