LISD’s fixed assets department, which holds and tracks the district’s inventory, has been the subject of much scrutiny during the past several years.
Apparently things are so screwed up at the fixed assests department that board member Guillermina Montes called it "the worst department....in the whole district." Interim Director Juan Ramon Gonzalez was called upon to answer questions regarding the department's tracking of supplies. This is what he said when asked about missing property:
there is an issue with schools and departments not notifying fixed assets when items are relocated elsewhere. In reading Nick Georgiou's story, I got the impression that Mr. Gonzalez either didn't want to discuss the issue of stolen property or was ill-prepared to present the needed information. His only response to the question of stolen merchandise protocol was to "file a report." And as far as stats on missing equipment:
he did not have that figure immediately available. He was sure of this, though:
LISD has "a lot of missing assets that we don't know where they are."Uh-huh. Does anyone want to guess how many veins busted at this little Q&A session?
