It's funny how the response to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has been played out.

Critics have chided the government for its inadequate response to the spill, its lack of oversight  regarding oil rigs, and now it's suggested that taxpayers foot part of the bill for the cleanup.  

Normally these people are in favor of less government intrusion, less regulation, and less of a tax burden on people.

We have to keep in mind that this is BP's doing.  They've got the financial resources to take care of this and they should have the expertise to handle the damaged equipment.  Corporate responsibility should be the focus of the debate, not political posturing in an election year.

UPDATE 6/11/10:

"Quit being an asshole Obama lets sink oil rigs steel ships cement bolders or whatever sufficient to stop oil spill in Gulf."
