Listen, wait, repeat

Music trends, good or bad, always seem to repeat themselves. There's a video for a song called "Bulletproof" by the British duo La Roux which has been out for a while, but has only recently caught my attention.

The group is most definitely influenced by pop-synthesizer 80's favorites of mine like Yaz, Depeche Mode, and Erasure. The look of singer Elly Jackson (who was born in 1988!) has androgynous undertones like Eurythmics singer Annie Lennox and her hair is reminiscent of A Flock of Seagulls' singer. The video itself is right out of 1985 with its vivid colors, geometric backdrop patterns, and  bold print fashions.

(Even the black tile in one of the backdrops was from Olivia Newton-John's 1981 video "Physical"...Well, not really, but might as well be.)

I know everyone is waiting for the 80's-ballad-playing-hair-bands to make a comeback. Until then I'll enjoy a little pop-synth throwback.
