Texas Gambling

Texas is reportedly facing a budget shortfall of $18 billion next year.  Some lawmakers are seeking to expand gambling in the state to gain some ground.  Rick Perry, on the other hand, thinks it's a bad idea.
"I would highly recommend they don't send it to my desk."
Perry has his reasons, none of which I'm aware of.  But what effect would gambling have on our communities?  Would we see scores of people going broke and losing their homes, jobs, and families?
