Cuellar's Earmarks

Sen. K.B. Hutchinson came in third on the list of senators who requested financing for special projects in their respective districts.  She requested $1.2 billion worth of earmarks (pork) in 2010.  Henry Cuellar meanwhile:
Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Laredo, said his earmark requests for 2011 include support for cities, public colleges, nonprofits and the military.
"Our communities tell me, 'We need your assistance,' and that is why I submit requests on their behalf," Cuellar said.
In 2009, our very own Henry Cuellar requested $8.4 million for projects, $3.9 million going to Laredo.   That sounds about right.  And the proof is in all the photo ops he's had holding a giant check.

But stuffing little pet projects in larger bills kinda goes against his fiscal conservative credo.  Cuellar is always mentioning that he's part of the Blue Dog Democrats, and that we should work on lowering the national deficit, and is a big proponent of PayGo, but when it comes right down to it, he's not afraid to throw some cash around.  Grant it, he's not a major violator when it comes to spending, but it does raise a question about whether or not he toes the fiscal conservative line.
