WHO:        City of Laredo, TX Mayor Raul G. Salinas
City of Nuevo Laredo, MEX Ramon Garza Barrios

WHAT:      Joint press conference

WHEN &   TOMORROW, Friday, April 30, 2010    9:45 a.m.
WHERE:  Gateway to the Americas Bridge Administration Office,
El Portal, 2nd Floor Conference Room Balcony,
1209 Water Street

WHY:        Several issues affecting both Laredo, Texas, U.S.A. and Nuevo Laredo, Tamps, Mexico have arisen over the last week, causing both Mayor Salinas and Mayor Garza Barrios to come together to publicly address the issues and state their adamant opposition.

Texas businessman Clayton Williams, Jr. has submitted an application to withdraw 41 million gallons of water from the Rio Grande, posing a significant threat for residential, commercial, industrial, and agricultural sustainability and growth in Laredo, Texas and Nuevo Laredo, Mexico.

Furthermore, the recent passing of SB1070 in Arizona has the potential for causing racial profiling, and worse.  In a community where the mighty Rio Grande unites two cities, not divides them, this legislation poses a threat to not only Mexican and Mexican-American citizens in Arizona, but potentially, throughout the country.
