Representatives from the City of Laredo were at Daiches Elementary today to discuss the various programs available for the community. The turnout was, how do I put this, less than stellar. Nevertheless, I got some information that might be of use to one family member. By the way, that's not me in the jeans and tan shirt.
One idea that I brought up to staff was the possibility of me adopting the land next to the Meadow bridge. The area is cluttered with trash sometimes and the grass gets a bit too bushy. My plan was to get rid of the debris every now and then, and add some bushes to add color to the landscape.
I was out there one day last week and somebody in a car passing overhead threw a used diaper over the rail. Luckily I wasn't hit.
Anyway, these trees need some pruning and a few shrubs would make the slope a little more appealing.
I have to get clearance from the railroad company who owns this property. After that, city staff can assist me in my endeavor. They can help me haul the trash away, and provide some volunteers to cut the grass once in a while. We'll see how it goes.
