Guerrilla Gardening

I've often complained of Laredo's lackluster appearance. The city is seriously lacking in greenery, and that which we have has little character to catch your eye.
The local university might have a space next to the student center that features some nice landscaping; Apart from that, there's not much else. Lynne Nava from Keep Laredo Beautiful, and some volunteers, did some work in the Las Brisas neighborhood where they planted some flowering shrubs.
More community planting needs to be done and someone needs to take the lead. The logistics of such an undertaking can be daunting, not to mention expensive, but our homely little town needs all the help it can get. I could initiate a guerrilla gardening plan, single-handedly beautifying Laredo one Vinca at a time. But again, it's going to take some serious planning.
I included a picture of some art from the ad for the United Methodist Church's Flower and Art Show to illustrate the fact that we love flowers -- we just do it on a smaller scale than most cities.
