Convent and Victoria

Please drive carefully and watch for pedestrians.

Out of order

So the U.S. House voted to hold Harriet Miers, and Josh Bolten in contempt for refusing to answer to Congress. This came about because the Democrats wanted to get to the bottom of so many U.S. Attorneys being fired.
Anyway, the resolution passed, no thanks to our very own Henry Cuellar.
He was the only Democrat to vote no (some dems didn't vote).
Funny. He's a member of Congress, but doesn't mind being disrespected by W's cronies.

Note to self: when I get a subpoena, call on Henry for backup.

Jesus Quintana

Happy Birthday John Turturo.

Brand names

"Neither Bill nor Hillary has done much for Latinos in their public careers."

I'm glad somebody finally said it.

Choices for Tax Assessor-Collector

This is a tough one. First you have the incumbent, Particia Barrera. I'm not too thrilled with her because her office wouldn't accept my debit card the last time I went to renew my tags. Also, she forced her employees to sell raffle tickets to fund her reelection campaign.

Second is Arnaldo Sarli. A newcomer with a fresh perspective and ideas. BUUUUTTTTTTTT, KGNS ran a story about him the other night concerning 6 DUI arrests. He apologized for the infractions and pleaded with the public to give him a chance. Hmm. Usually DUIs go hand in hand with local JPs (Rangel, Liendo). Who else is there?

Well there's R. Herrera. Someone that has enough space on his sign to spell out his entire first name but didn't. The thing that caught my eye though was his use of quotation marks on the word integrity. (scratching head) He is either mocking the whole election process, in which every candidate uses the words: integrity, trust, leadership, experience, etc...... Or he's letting us in on a dirty little secret of his. Could it be that he'll run the office into the ground? A wolf in sheep's clothing? He's in fact Al Pacino and he's going to corrupt Keanu Reeves!!!!!!
This all leads me to one conclusion: I should really consider moving.
I hear northern Pakistan is really nice this time of year.

Megadeth is coming Corpus Christi April 16!
Me? I'll probably be playing with rocks on the 16th, like these yungins.

You know, it wouldn't kill them to mention Laredo.

Made in the shade

Kudos to Taco Palenque for helping us keep our seats cool. Sure a fajita plate is $7 but who cares . What's important is that my hand won't get seared by a boiling seat buckle.

Nixon territory

Rival students show their anger for not having a water tank of their own.

Hispanics heart Hillary

So Hillary registered voters in south Texas when she was young, and for that, we're all supposed to think that she has championed Hispanic causes ever since. All this time I thought she was just married to a two-term president. I voted for Bill Clinton, and I appreciate the fact that he appointed Latinos to his administration, but we don't know that Hillary will do the same. We'll find out what she can do for Hispanics only if she becomes our next President.

George W. proved that one doesn't need a whole helluva lot experience to be Commander in Chief. And that's fine as long as one compensates with some common sense in their decision-making. For all the experience that Hillary is supposed to have, she really erred in voting for the war in Iraq.

Symbol of heritage?

The Texas primary is a short 16 days away. It'll be interesting to witness politics in action.
"I feared that if I answered honestly I could not win the South Carolina primary, so I chose to compromise my principles."

Honesty can be so refreshing.

Obama campaign lands in Laredo, TX

Representatives from Barack Obama's campaign were in Laredo Saturday night encouraging people to cast their vote for the Illinois senator. Mr. Frank Sanchez states his case for Obama.
La Posada Hotel will host "Uniting Borders for Change" Monday night at 7 p.m.

Pacino blanket for those cold Laredo days

I found this roadside stand in Sarita, TX. I asked the gentleman if he had any Serpico art, to which he gave me a blank stare.

Demonstration TBA

St. John the DJ was dismissed from his radio duties for cursing on the air. He scheduled a protest at the Embassy Suites parking lot but that fell through.
I guess the people couldn't have him protesting with it being Valentines Day and all.

Hidalgo St. downtown

March 1st

Hillary Clinton is coming to Laredo. What about Obama?

Shop Laredo first

Yes We Can - Si se puede

Letter to the editor:
If Hillary Clinton wins the nomination, she will absolutely need to choose Obama as her running mate to unite the party behind her. Vice versa, if Obama wins, he needs Clinton to prevent a female rebellion. John Anthony Castro (Dallas)

Obama should select a Latino running mate in my opinion. Maybe Bill Richardson, Antonio Villaraigosa, or George Lopez; just to make things interesting.

Nazareth - Holiday

Love it. Heard it the other day on TJ's show and for some reason thought of Mud Races, and Shakey's Pizza.

Sheriff candidates debate

Gerry Carmona was the most colorful of the six candidates. At one point, Rick Flores said, "Mr. Carmona doesn't need a drug test, he needs a psychological."

Just lame

This guy is still learning as he goes. His approval rating would be higher if he would put more thought into what he does.

Taste of Laredo

$22 to get in to the Laredo Entertainment Center and sample cold food; the burgers from Carl's Jr. didn't disappoint.

Smell the freedom

George W. tried to spread freedom but Iraqi women ended up with something else.

Just got back from the Taste of Laredo at the LEC. $22 to get in. Wendy's, and Taco Palenque did not show up.
I'll post some pics tomorrow.

Hope everyone had a nice Ash Wednesday.

Building for the future

Leyendecker Elementary in progress.

Hillary fever

Somebody is just wild about Hillary. I guess that's the least we could do after Bill visited the Palenque Grill.

A person at work said that America will not vote for a black man. Sure, if his name is Alan Keyes.

What investigation?

"When the President does it, that means that it is not illegal." - Richard Nixon

Apparently, selling football pots at the Tax Assessor's office isn't illegal.
And a 911 dispatcher selling Superbowl pots is also not illegal.

Having porn on your LISD-issued computer, as in the case of Oscar Cartas, falls under disgusting.
Out with them.

Super Tuesday and beyond

Keep your voter registration certificate handy.
"We always have people that are going to blame the system," said Montemayor. "I think if you're going to change the overall patron system stigma, it has to start at the grassroots level, you have to get involved."

Get out the vote in '08.

Thou should really not covet thy neighbors Shih Tzu.

Superbowl weekend

What exactly do they dispense at the FARmacy? And as far as we know, Mayor Raul Salinas never modeled for this picture.
Pasale primo!

Nixon, and Cigarroa are now going to be classified as 4A schools. Will there ever be another Martin - Nixon game?

It's a miracle; no idle trains this afternoon.
